Hamwood Flier shed her maiden tag at the fourth attempt at Naas today as the Jessica Harrington trained 78-rated filly landed the concluding Naas Racecourse Nursery Of Champions Maiden under jockey Shane Foley.

The daughter of Kodiac had filled the frame on each of her first three starts and today beat Baldomero by a length and a quarter.

Trainer Harrington, whose Lucky Vega retired to southern-hemisphere stud duties following Tuesday's runner-up effort in the St James's Palace Stakes, wasn't present and afterwards jockey Foley said “she was due that, she had a nice run in Listowel and probably just needed it as she hadn't run in a while.

“She was taking on the boys today but we were keen to come back to seven rather than stick with the fillies over a mile and it's worked out.

“I had the draw, and the fancied ones were wide, so I went forward. If something wanted to go on I was going to let them. I was a passenger on her early as she was well lit up after giving her the kick but she stayed going well.”
