Harry's Bar, a 16-time winner, has been retired after getting up by a nose to score in Dundalk just under a fortnight ago.

That was the 10-year-old gelding's ninth career success in Dundalk and it sealed the Leading Trainer Title for Stephen Thorne over the Winter Series on the Polytrack.

The son of Exceed And Excel started his racing career with James Fanshawe in Britain for whom he won seven times. A switch to Ado McGuinness saw the Shamrock Thoroughbreds representative win on his first two visits to Dundalk, including at Listed level on his Dundalk debut, and eight times in all for the stable.

After a spell with Jack Davison, he raced six times for Thorne, the creator of Shamrock Thoroughbreds, who took out his training licence in the autumn.

Thorne said: "Harry's Bar will bow out at the peak of his powers after winning at his beloved Dundalk last Friday for owners Shamrock Thoroughbred and Liam Ferguson. Rated 114 at his peak, Harry will retire a healthy and sound 95-rated horse.

"Harry's Bar will go to a trusted friend who can offer him a loving home and a new purpose. We wish him a long and happy retirement that's as successful and fulfilling as his racing career was to many."
