Hellvelyn Puts Down Jubilee Marker

Last year´s Coventry Stakes winner Hellvelyn pleased trainer Bryan Smart is a piece of work during racing at Redcar as he prepares for a possible return to Royal Ascot next week.

The Ishiguru colt went six furlongs under Ted Durcan and beat an unnamed galloping companion, ridden by Pat Cosgrove, comfortably.

The in-form Smart, who has the Golden Jubilee Stakes on Saturday week in mind for the grey, said: 'I was pleased with that and he will come on a lot for it.

'I am not saying who the other horse was other than he is very, very good and Hellvelyn pricked his ears when he got in front ? he always only just does enough.

'We needed to get a good gallop into him, but we will work him again next Tuesday before deciding about whether we go to Royal Ascot, it might come a bit soon.

'I hope he stays in training next season because I think he could be a champion sprinter.'
