It’s been one hell of a summer when it comes to sporting events ongoing across the world from Wimbledon to the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, Royal Ascot and now Galway Races Summer Festival. One of Ireland’s premier horse racing and social events, held at Ballybrit Racecourse, Galway and the 2025 edition of the event is fast approaching.
It all kicks off on Monday 28th July and comes to a close on Sunday 3rd August 2025 with an expected audience of 130,000 spectators over the week. Ticket sales are said to be up and well ahead compared to this time last year, which is promising news for the festival after 116,374 racegoers attended in 2024.
It’s a festival which celebrates and champions flat and jump races with top jockeys, trainers and owners from Ireland and the rest of the UK competing. Feature races like the Tote Galway Plate and Guinness Galway Hurdle also carry major prize money and prestige.
This year’s festival will be staging up to 53 races, with an increased total prize fund of €2,171,000 and a minimum of €17,000 for each race. The feature or main event on all seven days will be worth at least €110,000. It’s an event clearly worth competing in and more importantly, it’s worth attending.
Stakes High At Glorious Goodwood
In comparison to Galway, the Glorious Goodwood Festival, which runs from 29th July — 2nd August, will have a total prize money fund of £5.735 million, which translates to over €6 million. The esteemed festival takes place at Goodwood Racecourse, located in West Sussex near Chichester.
The races at Goodwood often attract royalty, celebrities and general global racing talent, along with the world’s best-bred horses. Horseracing has been part of life at Goodwood for over two centuries and that legacy will continue this year, with each racer looking to cement their name in the history books and take home a nice pay cheque in the process.
