Cheltenham has called an inspection on Thursday after heavy rain put day one of its November meeting in doubt.

The ground on all three courses at the track was changed to soft, heavy in places after 20mm of rain fell overnight.

The downpour is forecast to continue throughout Thursday, with a further 15mm possible, and the fourth fence on the cross-country course will be omitted because of waterlogging.

Friday’s six-race card is due to feature the Grade Two Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle and the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase.

The feature race of the three-day meeting is Saturday’s BetVictor Gold Cup.

An update on the course’s official Twitter account on Thursday morning read: “Following heavy rainfall overnight, there will be a precautionary inspection at 3pm today ahead of tomorrow’s raceday.”
