Pat Doyle hopes to have his smart chaser Kaiser Black back in action by next month.
Second to La Bague Au Roi in the Flogas Novice Chase at Leopardstown, Kaiser Black was last seen winning in Grade Three company at Naas in effortless style.
A minor problem ruled him out of the Ryanair Gold Cup at Easter, but the eight-year-old is back in full work — having done a little too well on his summer break.
“I’m not sure where he’ll go yet, but he’ll be out some time before Christmas,” said Doyle.
“I think we’re looking at a spring campaign with him, when he’ll get some better ground.
“The summer before last, he didn’t have a good summer out, so this year we gave him longer than normal — and he’s probably put on more condition than we wanted.”
Doyle reports Kaiser Black to be faring well at home nonetheless, but in need of a little longer before he makes his seasonal return.
“He’s taking a lot of work at the moment, so we’ll make a plan in the first week of December,” he said.
“He’s out of novice company now, so he’ll have to step up again, but he’s in proper shape.
“I’m training him for Punchestown and Fairyhouse in the spring, but I hope we can get a run into him at Leopardstown over Christmas if there’s something for him.
“He gets three miles, but on soft ground we’d stick to two and half. Jack (Doyle, son) will be back from America — where he’s been riding — in two weeks, and then we’ll make a plan.”
