Newcomers to the sport of horse racing will have the opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at Leopardstown Racecourse as members of the racecourse team will accompany them on a number of tours before racing to explain the ins and outs of a day at the races on Newcomers Day on Sunday, April 2, part of the highly-anticipated Ballylinch Stud Classic Trials Day.

A behind the scenes look at the weighing room to understand the day-to-day life of a jockey, walking the track and getting a close look at the starting stalls, along with a visit to the raceday commentary box to get a birds eye view of the final furlong, will make up just some of the activities available to racegoers.

Tim Husbands, CEO of Leopardstown Racecourse, said:

“We are always seeking ways to encourage new intertest in our sport and by giving racegoers a behind the scenes tour of the racecourse and all the different components that go into a premier race meeting like Ballylinch Stud Classic Trials Day, we hope to enlighten, captivate and promote new intertest in our sport.”

At Newcomers Day on Ballylinch Stud Classic Trials Day, racegoers will also get the opportunity to try out the RACE Academy Equicisor, which will be hosted by RACE Academy, Ireland’s jockey training school, and an opportunity to chat with Leopardstown’s Racing Manager Jane Hedley about how the track is prepared for a raceday.

All Behind the scenes tours are complimentary but guests must pre-register via the Leopardstown website. Raceday tickets for Newcomers Day on Ballylinch Stud Classic Trials Day can be purchased from leopardstown.com for €20.

All participants registered for the behind-the-scenes tours will receive access to a reserved seated area in the Legacy Bar for the duration of the race meeting.
