McNamara trains first Galway winner with Tell

Tell Us This came with a well-timed charge to land the spoils in the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Chase at Galway, for trainer Andy McNamara.

Conor Stone-Walsh sat behind the leaders in the two-mile-two contest before launching his challenge turning for home.

The 12/1 shot hit the front in the home-straight and had two-and-a-half lengths to spare as Herja charged home to take the runner-up spot.

Tell Us This was making his third start for McNamara having been claimed for €7,000 out of a claiming hurdle at Tramore in April.

"We claimed him after winning in Tramore and he ran well twice over hurdles afterwards,” said the winning trainer.

“This was a late plan as he were going to come here for a hurdle race, but his chase rating is lower so we took a chance sending him back over fences.

"Up until now, he wouldn't have been good enough but he jumped much better today.

"The celebrations could take place anywhere as there are syndicate members from Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Galway and Dublin. I haven't had many runners at the festival and that's my first winner as a trainer."
