Lawlor's Choice was the second big-priced winner at Down Royal today, as Philip Rothwell's 50/1 outsider landed the Bluegrass Fastrak Hunters Chase under jockey Tiernan Power Roche.

The eight year old made was a winner at trainer Rothwell's Tinahely point-to-point in February 2020 but was pulled up on two recent 'points' and was the biggest priced horse in today's five runner race.

Lawlor's Choice made headway to challenge approaching the second last and stayed on well on the run-in to beat runner-up Ask D'Man by a neck. Billable Grant won today's opener at 66/1 and following Lawlor's Choice's success, Power Roche stated “the plan was to finish as close as we could and she couldn't have finished any closer!

“She was game as she was a little bit flat out down at the bottom, so I just took my time and let her fill her for as long as I could.

"Her jumping was so good it took her into it the whole way and she was good up over the last three. Jumping won it for her.”
