Queally strikes in staying handicap for second year running

Declan Queally produced Mighty Berkshire to lead close home in Galway's two and three-quarter mile handicap hurdle.

The 15/2 chance, running in a handicap for just a second time and fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, came from well off the pace and jumped the last in fifth before powering home.

The six-year-old collared Golden Temple in the final strides for an ultimately cosy victory by the margin of a length and a quarter.  

"That was brilliant. We got his wind done and I thought he had a nice run back in Kilbeggan,” said winning trainer/rider Queally.

“I said I’d wait for this race and it worked out.

“I’m owed an apology off his owners. I went to Benidorm with a few of them and they were calling him a few names!”

Queally had landed last year's renewal of this race with Bal Kauto who also carried the colours of the Man About Dog Syndicate
