Samnina flashed home in the closing stages to land the Colm Quinn BMW Irish EBF Fillies Maiden at Galway for Jessica Harrington. Madam Secretary looked to have things in control when kicking for home passing the two pole in the seven-furlong contest.

Shane Foley was rowing along in fourth over a furlong from home on Samnina and the Sea The Moon filly found her feet late on as she got up for a three-parts-of-a-length success.

The 4/1 winner was stepping forward from her debut run, when she had finished fourth to the impressive Alpha at the Curragh.

"Shane said they went slow, then sprinted and she got outpaced, but as soon as she hit the rising ground she stayed on great,” said Harrington.

“I thought it wouldn't happen today but when she got out, she flew and won a length in the end.

"She had a very good run on her debut, she is a big filly and we wanted to run her on easy ground so came here. It is a big ask but she showed great acceleration. I think she will end up being a 1m4f-filly and I like the way she tries.

"John Mahon, who had an earlier winner (with Frankie John , and his son are in the syndicate so they've had a brilliant day."
