Abolitionist put in a typically gritty performance to justify favouritism under a man-in-form, Brian Hayes, getting home after an exciting conclusion to the Supermacs Dooradoyle Chase at Limerick.
Second favourite Railway Zira came down at the first, and it was mainly Rogue Angel that put it up to the rest from the front.
The Paul Holden-owned, and 'Shark' Hanlon-trained Abolitionist, led after the second last and then he kept Courtncatcher and Rough Justice at bay by three parts of a length and a length and three parts.
"He was brave as he made mistakes where other horses would have fallen," reflected Hanlon.
"He has to have three miles and is Galway bound now - if he doesn't get into the Plate, he'll run in the Blazers. Brian gave him a great ride and is riding out of his skin at the moment."
The Stewards interviewed B. Hayes, rider of Abolitionist, concerning his use of the whip in closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his saddle slipped back in this race.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found B. Hayes in breach of Reg. 10 3 (d) by using his whip after the winning post had been reached and having taken his record into account suspended him for two race days.
The Stewards further found B. Hayes in breach of Rule 213 by failing to report in the first instance anything which might have affected the running of his horse and having taken his record into account suspended him for two race days.
