Betsy Trotter got off the mark on her fifth start, as she took the opener at Navan this afternoon, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden.

Placed three times last season, the Dermot Weld trained daughter of Camacho was given a mark of 77 by the handicapper.

Settled behind the leaders on the outer, she took closer order from halfway, and hit the front a furlong and a half from home.

She was ridden out by Declan McDonogh from there, going on to score by a length and a quarter despite drifting right inside the final furlong. Scream (11/1) kept on well to take second under Gary Carroll for Ger Lyons, while 33/1 outsider Daubney's Dream was two and a half lengths back in third for Ronan Whelan and Sheila Lavery. Hawaam was sent off the 11/8 favourite, and he finished a disappointing fifth.

Weld said afterwards: "It's nice to have the owner (Frank Gillespie) over today to see his filly win. He's a very lucky owner who has had many good horses and is a great supporter of racing.

"She was very consistent last year without winning and she deserved her success here. We'll go for a handicap next."

The winner was sold as a yearling for 125,000 guineas, and is a half-sister to Tilly Trotter, who has won four times, two of which were for Weld.
