Chillie Billie made all under a fine front-running ride by Ross Coakley in the Brandon Hotel Handicap at Listowel.

Coakley bounced out smartly on his mount and he travelled sweetly at the head of affairs in the seven-furlong contest.

The John Larkin-trained gelding kicked clear two furlongs from home and kept on well in the closing stages to post a three-length winning margin.

Fellow 8/1 shot Doonard Prince came through to chase him home. Beau Satchel sent off the 5/1 favourite, could make no impression in fourth.

“He's a grand wee horse. He's always there or thereabouts and has been running well all year. He's been beaten a head and a short-head a few times,” said Larkin.

“It was quite simple today. He was drawn one, bounced out and did it well.

“All the owner (Breen White from Castleblayney Co Monaghan) has wanted all year is a winner at Listowel so he made sure he was here today.”

Coakley added: “He jumped smart and the plan was to go out and make it. He's the type of horse who likes going from the front and this type of track was always going to suit.

“I got a nice easy lead and was able to set my own fractions. When we straightened up I gave him a squeeze and he picked up well. I'm delighted to get a winner for John.”

There was drama mid-race with Miller Beach pulling up having appeared to suffer a bad injury.
