Jessica Harrington's Boho served up a 10/1 shock on debut in the median auction race for three-year-olds over an extended mile and a quarter at Roscommon. Burgundy Boy went off even-money favourite for this four-runner race after finishing fourth in the Group Three Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown last month. In addition, he won his maiden in Roscommon last July.
He led throughout but was stalked by 5/4 chance Future Proof who was on terms half a mile from home.
The two main market protagonists set down for a battle a furlong and a half out but Boho was far from done with.
Colm O'Donoghue switched him out from behind the pair and the Big Bad Bob gelding motored home in the final furlong to come out best in a three-way thrust for the line.
He won by a neck from Future Proof in the middle with Burgundy Boy a nose further away in third on the far rail.
Colm O'Donoghue said: "He did it well at the end. He's a horse that's always shown a good level of ability at home but he's just been a bit tricky.
“He's strong-minded so we had to pull him together a bit. He should improve from the run and he was obviously good to be taking on those horses with previous experience.
“He was kind of lugging out when I was going there to challenge and was a bit babyish, as he's entitled to be. Then he went in and out again, hopefully he can improve from the run.”
