The 9/4 favourite Bois De Clamart made a winning debut over fences in the Waterford Greenway Beginners’ Chase.

Sean Flanagan gave the French-bred gelding plenty of light at his fences and his mount jumped and travelled well.

The winner led two out and, although a little untidy at the last, he wasn’t extended to beat Florrie Webb (16/) by five and a half lengths with Scullys Dream (3/1) another length and a half back in third.

Bois De Clamart was a ten length winner of a Ballinrobe bumper in 2018 and was runner-up in a couple of maiden hurdles earlier in the year.

Winning trainer Liz Doyle said: "I decided to go this route rather than getting him handicapped over hurdles.

"He is a big baby and hopefully we can go the novice rated route with him now and visit our hurdles again some other time.

"I'll tip away over fences with him now and he is a lovely, lovely horse.

"I'm very pleased with that and it's good to get the beginners out of the way as you can spend six months trying to win one.

"We'll take it baby steps with him. His jumping was a bit hit and miss but that's normal."
