Broken Ice (4/1) lunged late to win the Donacarney Village Square Handicap Hurdle and complete a treble for Gavin Cromwell.

The Born To Sea gelding, runner-up on the Flat at this venue in July, chased the leaders but looked held in third between the final two flights. He stayed on strongly after the last, though, to collar the 6/4 favourite Yulong Voice close home with a head the margin of victory.

It was a double for Conor McNamara after Coulonces in the opener, while Cromwell was also on the mark in the second with Malina Girl

“It's a good day at the office!” said Cromwell.

“I'm delighted for his owner, Sonny Acham. He's in his nineties and lives in Trinidad, he gets a great buzz out of it and I'm sure he'll be thrilled.

“The horse was due one, to be fair to him, as he's been placed on the Flat and I thought he was a little bit unlucky the last day in Kilbeggan. I'm delighted.”
