Punchestown Festival hero Cadmium returns to action in an fascinating novice chase at Roscommon this evening.
The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old was a dominant winner of the two-mile handicap chase in County Kildare in late April and the trainer’s nephew Danny Mullins keeps the ride for the Ladies Day At Roscommon On Monday, 9th July, 2018 Novice Chase.
The 147-rated chaser faces two other recent winners in Jessica Harrington’s Punchestown victor Light That and the Noel Meade-trained Killarney scorer Le Martalin while classy hurdler Twobeelucky makes his fencing debut for Henry de Bromhead.
Steve Massey, racing manager for Cadmium’s owners the Supreme Horse Racing Club, said: “We were obviously delighted with him at Punchestown and he came out of the race in really good form.
“He’d been off the track for over a year before he made his debut over fences in January, so he hasn’t been on the go all that long.
“It was only his fourth run over fences at Punchestown and he only ran once over hurdles before he got injured, so Willie was keen to keep him going to give him more experience.
“We think he likes better ground, although obviously we hope it isn’t too quick at Roscommon.”
Pat Kelly ’s Bishops Quarter and The Last Marju from Denis Cullen’s yard complete the line-up.
Massey added: “There are some nice races coming up for him but we’ll just take it one race at a time and see where we end up.
“There are only six runners on Tuesday but he has to give weight to some smart horses and it won’t be easy, that’s for sure.”
