Caesar’s Comet continued a recent upturn in fortunes for trainer Peter Fahey when taking the Fairyhouse Family Funday Handicap.

The six-furlong event looked a very tricky puzzle beforehand with Caesar’s Comet, formerly trained by Paul Midgley and having his first run for the Monasterevin trainer, sent off the 6/1 favourite.

Kevin Manning had the Acclamation gelding close to the pace throughout, and just got the better of a protracted final furlong duel with A Likely Story

Half a length separated the pair at the line, with Pillar the same distance further back in third.

Fahey, saddling his fourth winner in the past ten days, said “The horses seem to have turned a corner and have started running well again. We got him from England for the Kildare Racing Club about two months ago and he goes on that ground.

“He’ll tip away in those races and you could see him back out again shortly. He’s a shouldery horse but he goes on that ground.”
