Cherif De L'isle gained a well deserved success when galloping on strongly to land the two-mile-six handicap hurdle at Limerick.

The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding had been hitting the woodwork this season having been placed on five occasions since joining the yard.

Davy Russell sent the 3/1 favourite into the lead on the home-turn today but The Ballyboys looked a big danger as he travelled well in behind going to the penultimate flight.

That rival made a slight error at the last, however, and Cherif De L'isle stuck on well to record a four length victory.

Russell said afterwards:- "Conditions, everything suited. He just doesn't go any quicker, that's him, he tries every day to be fair to him. He is a big, fine horse and was going to get his day eventually."
