Henry de Bromhead notched a quick double at Clonmel this afternoon when Capuccimix made a winning debut in the Monroe Maiden Hurdle.

The French-bred was sent to post a 6/1 shot on his first outing and was soon to the fore under Robbie Power.

He led up the back straight in the two-mile-three contest and responded well when tackled by Mason Jar going to the second last.

Neither horse jumped the penultimate flight well but Capuccimix had plenty up his sleeve after taking another slight chance at the last.

The grey asserted on the run-in to post a cosy four length success over the 20/1 runner-up.

"I'm delighted to win for (owners) Robcour and as Robbie said he did everything wrong and still won,” said de Bromhead.

"They went so slow he seemed to pull his way to the front and enjoyed his way lobbing along. He is a horse we've always liked but has taken a while to get here and I'm delighted to get it.

"He looked to be travelling effortlessly down to the second last and I would guess he is a staying type and we have to work on settling him down a bit first.

“It has taken us a long time to get to this point and hopefully he will keep continuing to progress.

"He's a big hardy fella but he'll have a few more runs this year and it's all about chasing in time."
