Gorane came on sufficiently from her debut here twelve days ago when sixth, to spring a 20/1 surprise for Henry de Bromhead and his wife Heather in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden (Plus 10 Race) at Dundalk.

Declan McDonogh rode his 50th winner of the year as de Bromhead saddled his first juvenile winner with the Dream Ahead filly.

Soon up there making the pace, Gorane was strongly pressed from under two furlongs out but she simply refused to yield. At the line she had half a length, a neck, and a nose in hand over Pennsylvania Ice Canyon and Golden State

"I'm delighted. It was a great ride by Declan. Wayne Lordan rode her the last day and thought she was really nice but just very green. She knew her job today," said de Bromhead.

"She's tough. We always liked her at home but wouldn't have too many to compare her to. It's nice to see her come out and do that.

"That's my first two-year-old winner ever so I'm delighted to get it. It's in the boss' colours as well so it's even better.

"She's definitely there to be sold. Declan really liked her. She's tough and stayed on well. She did all the donkey work."

P.J. Smullen, rider of Alfredo Arcano trained by David Marnane, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost two shoes in running.
