Shamad (6/1) made it four wins in his last five starts when he gamely landed the final race of the Western meeting at Ayr, the Jordan Electrics Ltd Handicap over 1m 5f, in the hands of 3lbs claimer Sean Davis.

The Shamardal gelding, trained by Peter Fahey, scored at Gowran Park and the Curragh before winning at York under Oisin Orr earlier this month.

Here, having hit the front inside the final quarter mile, he was headed by the locally-trained Employer soon after, but the Irish raider battled back in resolute fashion to score by a short head, with Battle Of Marathon running on well to be just a neck further away in third place.

The first three finished a long way clear of the rest in the fourteen-strong field.

Davis, from Maynooth, has enjoyed a fine season in Britain in 2019, having previously been based with Michael O’Callaghan and, more recently, Ger Lyons in his native land.

Fahey’s string continues in fine form under both codes (also won the bumper at Ballinrobe on Friday evening with China Princess) and this was his sixth winner since the start of the month.
