Shane Foley extended his lead at the head of the Flat jockeys’ championship when completing a 109/1 double aboard Sage Advice in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden at Cork.

The Joe Murphy-trained gelding showed promise on his previous four starts, and appreciated the step back up to ten furlongs here.

Alghazaal looked set to score when driven clear over a furlong out but was steadily reeled in by the 9/1 chance in the closing stages.

Three quarters of a length was the winning margin, with the patiently-ridden 5/2 favourite Simply A Breeze keeping on one paced a further three lengths back in third.

Foley, who was on the mark earlier on the card with Street Kid is now 14 clear (54-40) of Wayne Lordan in the title race.

Murphy said, “He’s a nice horse and only a shell of what he will be. He’s a big growing three-year-old and I think he’ll be a nice horse for the future.

“I think he’ll get a mile and a half but he’s just a bit weak yet. He’d a good run the last day and the form has worked out well. Horses like him learn more over a mile and the extra distance today helped him.”
