Connections of French Claim are on weatherwatch over the coming days as the Paddy Twomey trained colt is readied for Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

Teme Valley's French Claim won on yielding to soft ground at Cork in April, finished third on good ground in the Group 3 Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown last month and currently features amongst the 16 entries for the 1m4f Classic.

Twomey's stable jockey Bill Lee reports “he is well and ran a really good race in the Derby Trial at Leopaardstown. That 1m2f was his minimum, it was good ground that day and he will get 1m4f or 1m6f and even two-miles next year — he is that type of horse.

“We would want a bit of rain, it would help him, and he will more than likely be declared with a view to running and hopefully the rain arrives to ease the ground.”
