After wins for owner, breeders Ballygallon Stud and Ballylinch Stud earlier on the card, there was further County Kilkenny cheer as Fairy Foxglove came out on top in the www.naasracecourse.com Apprentice Handicap.
Trained in Castlecomer by Pat Murphy, 16/1 chance Fairy Foxglove was never far away and she was in front a furlong and a half out under Ross Coakley.
She was pressed in the closing stages but the victorious Albano mare held off Lightening Stricks by half a length to register her third career win. Pretty Little Liar a big mover in the market this morning, finished eighth.
"She stuck it out well. She appreciated the mile which allowed her to get into a good rhythm. She has a really good attitude," reported Coakley.
Coakley had a couple of days over with Mark Johnston recently, and he nearly rode a winner on Juste Pour Nous, who went down by a head at Ripon on Saturday.
The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the two furlong pole involving Del's Delight ridden by G.P. Brouder, unplaced and Angelic Demon ridden by A.J. Breslin, unplaced, where it appeared that Del's Delight had to check off heels. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further action.
