Btiview Colin was an apt winner of the Irish Examiner Handicap Hurdle, a day after the Tipperary footballers recorded a historic success in the All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park.

John Ryan's five-year-old is named after former Tipperary footballer Colin O'Riordan (who now plays Aussie Rules with Sydney Swans), who is a son of winning owner Imelda.

Successful at Ballinrobe in May, the son of Whitmore's Conn then disappointed at Roscommon, before running well at Limerick and Killarney respectively.

Sent off a 7/1 chance today, he made all under Danny Mullins. He was pushed along and pressed before three out, but found plenty for pressure, going on to score by a length and a half. Lord Fendale (5/1) finished second under Andrew Lynch for Shane Donohoe, while Killiney Court (5/1) was a neck back in third under Mikey Fogarty for Colm Murphy. Copy Print was sent off the 9/4 favourite and he finished a disappointing fifth under Adrian Heskin for John Joe Walsh.

John Ryan, who trains near Templemore, said afterwards: "I've always thought a lot of him and he's from a proper family and out of a mare who won three or four Grade 2's in France.

"He'll go for a novice hurdle next and is a lovely novice to have - the sky's the limit!"
