St George's Head rescued Kieren Cotter's evening at Dundalk as the gelding credited the trainer with a first winner of the new year in the concluding division of the concluding Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Handicap.

Ridden by Declan McDonogh, the son of Kingstown Hill was successful over today's seven furlong course and distance in November and today scored a three parts of a length win over Dark Magic

Cotter later explained “he got us out of jail - we had two beaten favourites and we said it was down to Georgie to save the day!”

“Declan (McDonogh) kept it nice and simple on him and he thinks he's getting a bit better. They went a good clip, he's sat back and galloped all the way to the line.

“He's doing well, he's developing and hopefully will win another one. We're happy to get off the mark for the year now.”
