Knockanarrigan defied an eight pound rise for a recent success, as he ran out an easy winner of the Laois Hire Supporting Kildare GAA Handicap Chase, providing Dessie Hughes and Mark Enright with a double on the card (took the fourth with Art Of Logistics .

The six-year-old son of Shantou won on his handicap debut over fences at Fairyhouse less than a fortnight ago, and he was sent off the 6/4 favourite to follow up this afternoon.

His chance improved as the day went on, with fancied horses Tailors Hill, Forever Gold and Lord Alfie all taken out.

Prominent throughout, the Neville Eager owned victor led from before the fourth last, and he had all his rivals off the bridle turning for home.

He then stretched clear on the run-in without coming off the bridle, scoring by six lengths at the line.

Top weight Chestnut Charlie kept on to take second at 16/1 under Andrew Lynch for Peter Maher, while Glenwood For Ever (20/1) was a further length and a quarter back in third under Eddie O’Connell for Martin Cullinane.

Dessie Hughes said afterwards: "He loves that quick ground. It was a bit quicker than it was at Fairyhouse the last day.

"Mark got him settled and he was a bit free the last day. He is progressing and we will keep him on the go for the summer."
