Grey horse Silver Chief mowed down the opposition at the furlong pole and was pushed out by Connor King to land the spoils by three and three quarter lengths at 8/1.

King’s 5lb claim reduced the weight the eight-year-old mare had to carry in this Limerick handicap from 10 stone to 9-9. Undecided at 25/1 got place money in second, a neck in front of Doux Douce at 9s. The 7/4 favourite Hurricane Sky was back in sixth.

Delighted handler Mick Winters said: “We advertised her for sale eight months ago on DoneDeal, but nobody wanted her. She had been running and was second and third and nobody rang for her. That’s Connor’s first winner for me and he’s a local lad to us.”

Silver Chief was last seen at Downpatrick in December when runner-up in a two and a quarter mile novice chase. Her other career victory came in a maiden hurdle in Sligo in August 2012.
