Last season's smart novice hurdler Janidil made a winning fences debut at Naas today as the Willie Mullins-trained, J.P. McManus-owned gelding landed the concluding Mongey Communications Beginners Chase under jockey Mark Walsh.

Trainer Mullins had four winners at Gowran yesterday and while beaten with five earlier runners today, four at short-prices, Janidil rescued the day in the finale when scoring a comfortable five lengths win over Longhouse Poet

Mullins, who begins a fortnight's racecourses suspension on December 4 for a Covid protocol breach, later commented “you would have to be very pleased and it looks like he may have come on again from last year and is going to improve over fences.

“We’ll look for something at Christmas.”

Paddy Power later cut Janidil to 20/1 (from 40s) for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham in March.
