Call Me Sweetheart benefitted from a strong ride by Wayne Lordan to complete a double on the evening for Aidan O’Brien after a thrilling finish to the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Fillies Maiden at the Curragh.

The daughter of Australia was sent off the 11/4 favourite in this mile and a half event, with the field reduced to nine in the absence of Born Leader and Espania.

Lordan’s mount challenged between horses inside the final furlong and responded gamely under pressure to just get up on the line.

The winning margin was just a short-head from Simply A Dream who also finished strongly on the outer, while Azallya was just a head further away in third.

O’Brien said, “Wayne was strong on her and gave her a very good ride.

“She’s learning as she’s going along. The last day she was very idle in front so we decided to give her a chance today.

“She was better dropped in and Wayne said there is more to come with her. She is probably still maturing and growing up.” Point Lonsdale initiated the Ballydoyle double when taking the opening juvenile maiden in impressive style under Seamie Heffernan.
