Maths Prize proved one of the most impressive winners of Derby weekend when streaking clear in the final furlong to claim the meetings final race.

Billy Lee produced the 11/2 shot to lead two furlongs out in the ten furlong Troytown Grey Abbey Equine Hospital Handicap and he soon kicked clear of his field.

The Richard O'Brien-trained gelding galloped on strongly in the closing stages to post a six-length winning margin over last year's winner Hamley

The winner had also won over a mile at the venue in mid-May.

O’Brien said:- “We had been aiming for the mile race all along but as the ground got quicker and quicker we felt we had to go this direction. He’s been very impressive.

“He’s in the Nasrullah Handicap at Leopardstown (on July 12th) but he’s going to get murdered. He may have to step up.

“Billy was very impressed with him, and it’s wonderful for his owners Frank Lynch and Mick Hartnett who are great supporters and get a great kick out of them.”
