We had a third three-year-old in succession to win an all-aged handicap at Dundalk when Fryerns sprung a 28/1 surprise in the finale.
Following on from fellow ‘classic generation’ members, Ecliptic Moon and Romann Fryerns took the second split of the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap for John McConnell and Dylan Browne McMonagle. Sweet Affection and Punters Poet were the ones to chase Fryerns home, in second and third, at distances of a length and three parts of a length.
This was a first handicap on the polytrack for Fryerns, and she was sporting a hood for just the second time.
It was Browne McMonagle’s first time on the Helmet filly, and it represented a nice win for connections given that she joined them after a sales purchase of 1,400 pounds last November.
“She ran well early on in the year at Roscommon and then we discovered she had ulcers. She had them treated and then had a nice run back at Leopardstown,” said McConnell.
“She ran well here last winter after we bought her. We bought her cheaply and hopefully she can go on and win another one.
“The owner (Andrew O'Brien) has been very patient with her and I’m delighted as I haven’t had a winner for him before.”
G.M. Ryan, rider of Royal Admiral trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was slowly away from the starting stalls.
A.W. Short, rider of Effernock Dieubon trained by Miss Katy Brown, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left during this race.
K.J. Manning, rider of Capablanca trained by Patrick J.Flynn, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was checked about two furlongs from the finish.
The Stewards enquired into an incident early in the home straight involving Effernock Dieubon, ridden by A.W. Short, Capablanca, ridden by K.J. Manning and Getgo (GB), ridden by G.P. Brouder, where it appeared Effernock ran short of room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident accidental and therefore took no further action.
