Trainer Eric McNamara has won the Guinness Kerry National on three occasions in the past and he will be hoping that Internal Transfer can make it win number four in Wednesday's renewal.

Internal Transfer will be ridden by his son, Conor McNamara, who's hopeful of a big run from the 9-year-old: “He has a light weight this year. He ran a cracker in it last year to finish fourth (to Poker Party).

"His prep run in Limerick just didn’t go ideally, he disappointed us, but something was found after it. Dad (Eric) seems very happy with him at home.

"He’s been away for a few gallops and he seems in great form and we know that he likes the track, he jumps well, and hopefully he’ll be competitive in it.

"Last year in this race he was a small bit free and a bit gassy but I think, with another year, he’s matured again and I think we’ll jump him off in the firing line. We’ll make it if we can. But if not I don’t think there’s any major panic, we’ll sit and follow the pace and hopefully have a crack at them turning in.

"We’d love to try and win it. When I was growing up in school we used always get Wednesday off to come back for Kerry National Day in Listowel.

"Dad’s been fortunate enough to win it three times with Ponmeoath twice and Faltering Fullback and if I could do it on Internal Transfer it would definitely be a career highlight."
