The Jim Bolger-trained Mearu gained valuable brackets when running out a convincing winner of the apprentice handicap at Naas this afternoon.

The Intense Focus filly was produced with a well timed run, by Gavin Ryan, to lead a furlong out in the ten furlong contest and went on to record a five-and-a-half length victory over 3/1 favourite Harvey Specter

The 4/1 winner was equipped with a tongue-strap and cheekpieces for the first time today.

“That's job done and she's ready for the paddocks now,” said Bolger.

“She's out of a Galileo mare and is a half-sister to Cimeara who won at Gowran on Wednesday.

“That could be it for her — her job is breeding.”
