Mig Des Taillons gave trainer Paddy Turley his first racecourse success when easily taking the spoils in the extended two mile handicap hurdle at Down Royal.

The five-year-old gelding took over before three out when free-running leader Royal Royal was pulled up.

The 11/8 favourite travelled well and asserted on the run-in to put his rivals away by four and a half lengths, with Declan Lavery in the saddle. Lusis Naturea took second at 5/1 by four and a quarter lengths from Ilikehim (8/1).

Paddy Turley said: “I’ve had point-to-point winners, but it is great to get my first winner under rules.

“He can be a keen sort, it is more a handbrake you need with him! But he settled lovely today.

“He’ll be out again in a couple of weeks.

“I’m from Downpatrick and we have the farm in the middle of the racecourse.”
