Millford Sound rallied to great effect to pip the favourite Grace To Grace in the nightcap at Roscommon.

The four-year-old gelding put in a lot of the hard yards at the head of affairs in this mile and a half handicap.

He looked in trouble, though, when headed by Grace To Grace over a furlong out. He was soon ridden by Luke McAteer and knuckled down to his task in the final furlong.

He drew alongside Grace To Grace in the final 100 yards and kept battling to force a photograph which he came out on the right side of by a nose at 15/2.

Grace To Grace went off 11/4f under Mikey Sheehy. El Tren ran a notable race five lengths away in third at 33/1 off a 300-day absence.

Trainer James Barrett said: “He's a tough horse. He was probably unlucky the last day in the ladies' handicap off this mark.

“This race came up and the soft ground probably helped him a bit. He was getting a bit idle in front and when Joseph's horse came over, and came to his girth, I knew he'd put his head down and battle hard.

“We'll see how he is and we'll probably go jumping with him next.”
