Joey Sheridan drove Monzoon home for a last-gasp success in the Derek O´Sullivan Memorial Apprentice Handicap at the Curragh.

The four-year-old gelding progressed to fourth racing into the final furlong and kept on strongly to nab What A Feeling by a head.

He scored at 10/1 while the runner-up was an 8/1 chance. Reverberation was a nose away in third at 9/1 with Howling Wolf (under the 6lb winners' penalty for scoring at Gowran Park on Wednesday) a couple of lengths adrift in fourth.

Trainer Ross O’Sullivan said: “He was disappointing in Galway the last day whether he didn’t handle the track or the race didn’t work out for him as they went hard and he was up with the pace.

“He was much more in his comfort zone today. He ran well in a maiden here last year and obviously likes the track.

“I was going to give out to the handicapper as he hasn’t moved him off his mark for his last three runs but I won’t be able to say it now!

“It’s great for John Bowden who is with me since we started. He’s from Athy but lives in Dublin and absolutely loves his racing.

“He bought this horse last year as Doonard Prince is 12 now and he wanted another horse to have some fun. He gets a great kick out of it.”
