Hugh Morgan continues to impress in the saddle, and rode his eighth winner of the campaign aboard Henry de Bromhead’s Or Jaune De Somoza (14/1) in the Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap Chase.

The French-bred led from an early stage and, after losing momentum two out, jumped the last well and ran on to defeat Ballyegan Hero (7/1) and Seskin Flyer (25/1) by a length and three quarters and a head.

The 3/1 favourite Black Scorpion having travelled well to the home turn, faded out of contention to finish fifth.

The winner had won a beginners’ chase at Fairyhouse in April, and this was just his second start in handicap company.

“He got a bit tight to the second last, said the winning rider Hugh Morgan.

"I wanted to be good and positive just to keep the revs up on him as he can be lazy. He was clever and put in a short one, and on the back of it he picked up again.

“He met the last well and ran well to the line. It was great for Gigginstown and Mr De Bromhead to give me this opportunity, and thankfully we got there.”
