Irish horse racing is set to resume at Naas Racecourse on Monday after a gap of 76 days due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Under new protocols compiled jointly by Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) and the Irish Horse Regulatory Board (IHRB) the racecourses will be limited to essential personnel only and strict hygiene and social distancing measure must be adhered to.

In advance of each race meeting the entire racecourse enclosures will need to be deep cleaned and disinfected. All areas in use will need to be cleaned again at least twice during racing and deep cleaned again when racing has ended.

HRI has issued a 77 page document outlining the protocols that will apply to each set of staff working at behind closed doors racing from Monday. The document can be read HERE

Entries for the opening fixtures next week are smaller than might have been anticipated following the long layoff. Naas (234 entries), Leopardstown Tuesday (241), Navan Wednesday (188). The going is Good To Firm at both Naas and Leopardstown with watering of the tracks continuing.
