Penny Jane capped a great evening at Downpatrick for Jamie Codd and Gordon Elliott when making all in the Carling Original Cider bumper to complete a treble on the card.

Codd, who was crowned champion amateur for the first time at Punchestown just last Saturday after a tremendous battle with Patrick Mullins, elected to set the pace on the daughter of King’s Theatre.

The 15/8 chance was strongly pressed by the 11/8 favourite Frankiefiveangels inside the final furlong but held on gamely by a neck. Thinkinginmysleep was a further 13 lengths back in third.

Codd and Elliott successfully teamed up earlier on the card with Westland Row and Presenting Julio

Elliott said, "We are after having three winners and three seconds, a couple of them beaten two heads down below (in Cork). The horses are running well so it's nice to get the season up and running.

"She's a nice mare. She wants a bit further and has a good pedigree. She'll do her job."

He added, "Jamie rode his first winner for me about 10 or 11 years ago on a horse called Team Chaser in a point-to-point and we have been together ever since. I wouldn't say he has ridden more winners for anyone else than me in the last 10 years, I'd be surprised."

Gillian Ryan was suspended for five days after failing to ride out Cluan Dara in the closing stages and losing third place.
