Twenty five to one chance Storm Ranger had served notice of a Pat Flynn return to the winner's enclosure in the preceding heat when second. Those that took the hint didn't have long to wait for a return, as Mademoiselle Penny landed a gamble under Danny Grant in the BBQ Race Evening Friday June 10th Handicap at Clonmel.

Backed from 8/1 into 9/2 favourite, Mademoiselle Penny defied top-weight by making most and holding off all-comers in the final furlong for a half a length verdict over Honor Oak (short of room a furlong out). Caridadi finished off well for a close-up fifth after having to switch to get a run.

"She's a really tough mare - an honest mare," said Flynn.

"I was going to go to Wexford but I said I'd come to my local track. She did it well and should win another one as long as she doesn't go too high.

"Danny is a top rider and if they are good enough he'll win on them. I was very confident coming here with ten stone and Danny riding.

"She's a brave one - a good old fighter."

K. Fallon, rider of Tara Dylan trained by Thomas Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not let herself down on the ground.
