Peregrine Run has had the layers on the run more than once in his recent starts, including when winning at Down Royal five weeks back. It was easy to see why he'd generated such interest in the market as he treated his rivals with total disdain under Roger Loughran in the Banff and Buchan Handicap Hurdle at Gowran.
Peter Fahey 's King's Theatre gelding had this two and a half miler under control from the penultimate flight, and he crossed the line with a convincing five lengths in hand over Conduct Yourself Sea Light was around 3/1 market-leader earlier, and he ended up an 8/1 chance. Charles Byrnes' runner finished last. Static Jack meanwhile, ten or eleven to one in earlier trading, ultimately went off the well-backed 11/2 favourite, but he didn't meet expectations, eventually pulling up before the second last.
"I was not as confident as I was the last day at Down Royal. His last few bits of work before the last run were very good but he'd gone up 13lb," acknowledged Fahey.
He added: "He'll probably have to go back to novice company now. I think he wants good ground so if it gets too soft we could put him away until the spring.
"I can't wait for him to jump a fence."
D.J. Mullins, rider of Static Jack trained by Miss Ellmarie Holden, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hit the third last hurdle, lost his action and was pulled up.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Static Jack, trained by Miss Ellmarie Holden, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
