There was drama in the closing stages of the median auction maiden as Power Of Now came to win his race.

The Michael O'Callaghan-trained colt launched his challenge to the front-running Dumouriez inside the final furlong of the mile contest.

He edged left, however, in the final 100 yards when hitting the front and Dumouriez also came slightly right squeezing up newcomer Egrecio

The Dermot Weld-trained colt was very lucky not to hit the deck after being badly hampered with Declan McDonogh sitting tight.

Power Of Now, ridden by Leigh Roche, eventually beat Dumouriez by a length-and-a-half. Focus Required inherited the third spot with Egrecio getting over the line in fourth. The result was unaltered after the stewards enquiry found the interference to be accidental.

O’Callaghan said: “The autumn is going to be his time of the year. He’s a lovely horse with plenty of scope.

“He shows a lot of ability at home and he showed it first time out at Leopardstown where he was very green. He then went to Galway and was a good third but the ground was too soft.

“That ground today was perfect and he wanted all of the stiff mile at Naas as well. He’s showing signs of potentially being a very nice three-year-old, and is very straight forward.”
