Princess overcomes trouble to win Slane

The newcomer Princess Marlan overcame nearly being brought down at the first and passed the stands with just three rivals behind her, but the daughter of Bob Back came home best to cause a 20/1 surprise in the opening Slane Mares Maiden Hurdle.

A full-sister to last week's winner, Lady Roberta, this one carries the colours of her breeder Antoinette Quinn and she is the first that Jessica Harrington has trained for the owner.

Mrs Harrington commented of the Robbie Power-ridden winner, who made the most of runner-up Chasing Clouds slow jump at the last: "We thought she was nice but she is very nervous around other horses and for that reason we thought she might need the experience.

"She stays well and will get a lot further. I'm delighted for the owners."

Mark Walsh, who got a fall from Kings Equity walked back in but he was stood-down for the day. The mount on Lismakeery in the second went to Ruby Walsh.
