Davy Russell notched a quick double at Limerick this afternoon when On Fiddlers Green ran out a cosy winner of the 2m3f maiden hurdle.

Eddie Hales' charge was backed at 4/1 this morning and went to post a 2/1 shot. Russell let him hit the front at the sixth last and he proved much too strong for his rivals in the closing stages.

Uneasy favourite The Gatechecker (4/9 in morning returned 4/5) cried enough before the straight and nearest pursuer Shake It Up came under pressure at the second last.

On Fiddlers Green asserted going to the final flight and only needed to be shaken up on the run-in for a five-and-a-half length victory.

The winner had been well held in third when behind The Gatechecker in a bumper at the track on St Stephen's Day.

"He's a really nice horse and will jump a fence next year- that has always been the plan with him," said Hales afterwards.
