Oscer Romero made it three from three in Ballinrobe when winning the Burleigh Accountancy Handicap under Hugh Morgan.

He gave trainer Philip Rothwell a double on the card as he earlier saddled Baltinglass Hill to win race three. This was a step up in trip to an extended three miles one for Oscer Romero.

He came to challenge Goodnightngodbless at the last and despite fluffing it took over from that rival turning in.

He forged on well in the final furlong to win by three and three quarter lengths at 11/2. Dorans River (22/1) got up for second by a head from Goodnightngodbless (12/1).

Rothwell said: “We missed last summer because of Covid and he didn’t handle winter ground.

“He got beaten one day in Fairyhouse (in March) on soft ground and I was disgusted because I thought that he’d win.

“He got a bit of confidence here over 2m5f (in May) and I thought, given the way he won here the last day, that there might be more to come with a step up in trip.

“We missed Galway and waited for this race back here and I’m just delighted it worked out.

“He got the trip really well, so it looks like over a trip on nice ground he could be reasonably effective, so we’ll see to what level we can get. He’s an exciting horse.”

Morgan rode out his 5lb claim with this winner.
