Seven pound conditional Trevor Ryan recently ended a barren spell with a winner at Ballinrobe and he followed up on 20/1 chance Finding Joy in the Pig ‘N’ Whistle Pubs & Restaurants New York Handicap Hurdle at Kilbeggan.
In the words of commentator Jerry Hannon, eventual second Myladyrose “looked home and dry” when in front on the run-in, but the Kerry caller summed it up perfectly with his “Thatbeatsbanagher, indeed it did,” as Finding Joy finished with real gusto.
The Thatbeatsbanagher that Hannon was referring to finished seventh whilst up front a length and a half split the big two with a length to Ishyaboi in third.
"I thought she'd win a bumper and went to Wexford with her and put blinkers on her which was the makings of her as it sharpened her up," said winning trainer Michael Hourigan.
"She is always behind the blinkers at home and since I put the blinkers on her she has improved. She ran well in a maiden at Killarney, was keen the whole day and has just got better.
"I wanted better ground today and was worried about that but Trevor gave her a good ride and that's his first winner for me. He was with me all last winter and the previous winter."
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Luis Van Zandt trained by A.J.Martin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be coughing post race.
R.M. Power, rider of Luis Van Zandt trained by A.J.Martin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled.
The Stewards received a report from Mr. L. Walsh , Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that L.P. Gilligan , rider of Ishyaboi , weighed in at 1.2 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that L.P. Gilligan was in breach of Rule 231 and having considered his record in this regard suspended him for 3 racedays.
The Stewards interviewed M.F. Mooney, rider of Myladyrose, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that M.F. Mooney was in breach of Regulations 10.3 (g) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency, 10.3 (h) in that he used his whip with his arm above shoulder height and 10.3 (f) in that he used his whip with excessive force. Having considered his record in this regard, the Stewards suspended M.F. Mooney for 4 racedays.
