Kate Harrington saw her claim reduced to five as she guided Sandymount Duke to a surprise 40/1 success in the bumper at Listowel, the McElligotts Tralee Ltd. INH Flat Race.

Trained by Harrington’s mother Jessica, the five-year-old son of Hernando was settled in third before improving into second with a circuit to race.

He made further progress to lead with four furlongs out and he kept on well when ridden in the straight to score by three lengths.

Deputy’s Pass was sent off the even money favourite but he couldn't peg back the winner in the straight and had to settle for second under Robbie McNamara for Alan Fleming.

That’s Nice completed the placings a further seven and a half lengths back in third under Derek O’Connor for Michael Hourigan at 5/1.

Jessica Harrington said in the aftermath: "I'm the most surprised person in Listowel. He showed me absolutely nothing in two hurdle races, I just can’t believe it and Kate gave him a super ride. She has lost her seven pound claim now and is down to five.

"He is a full-brother to Sandymount Earl who won the Cesarewitch. He doesn’t like jumping so maybe we will keep him to the flat."

The winner is owned by Ronnie Wood of Rolling Stones fame.
